Liverpool face Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday, May 19, 2024 (5/19/24) at Anfield in Liverpool, England.
For Liverpool the season is very much over. Having lifted the League Cup trophy and secured a Champions League place, it has been somewhat of a success. Fans will be disappointed in the way their Premier League challenge petered out but you can't have it your way every year. In fact, given the injuries and set-backs, it's been arguably an over-performance. Perhaps not the rip-roaring note on which to say goodbye to Jurgen Klopp but expect passion a-plenty from the Kop on Sunday all the same.
Wolves will finish the season around mid table which is a decent return given the early season woes that say them tipped for relegation. The plaudits for keeping them up go to manager Gary O’ Neil. He rejuvenated his squad and keep them fighting, causing upsets against Man City, Chelsea and Spurs. The Wanderers will be keen to see Pedro Neto back off the bench after a long spell on the sidelines.

Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara will leave Liverpool when their contracts expire at the end of the season.
Liverpool announced their imminent departures on Friday, two days before the team’s final Premier League game.
The 32-year-old Matip, a ball-playing center back, arrived at Anfield on a free transfer from Schalke in the offseason of 2016 as one of Klopp’s first signings.
The former Cameroon international played 201 games for Liverpool and helped the team win the Champions League and Premier League.
I have said before that if there was one person who wouldn’t care if he was underrated it would be Joel, Klopp said, but the truth is we could not have rated him more highly.
Thiago, a former Spain midfielder, has spent four years with Liverpool but injuries have limited him to 98 appearances.
An artist of the game who will only ever paint the most beautiful pictures, Klopp said of Thiago.
Technically, he is so, so good. A talent who could play in any team in the world and it was a privilege to have him with us.
Other players leaving their clubs at the end of the Premier League season are Manchester United pair Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial and Chelsea defender Thiago Silva.
Anfield will no doubt be emotional come kick-off and full-time today, although the German will be utterly focused on the game for the 90 minutes despite the Reds’ season being long finished.
Liverpool are destined to finish third having seen their league season and cup charges falter, with only the Carabao Cup to their name in 2023-24.
Wolves still have an unlikely place in the top half to fight for after a quiet end to a positive season under Gary O’Neil.
But, after more than a decade of Klopp stalking the Anfield touchline, this afternoon will be all about one man as Liverpool bids a fond farewell to one of its most beloved managers.
Liverpool will have to settle for third place this season but they have the opportunity to deliver a grand send-off to Jurgen Klopp who will be managing his last game as Reds boss. Wolves have only managed one win in ten games but will want to sign off with a win.
